Bounceback and Slideback Index 2010-11

One of the many strategies in building a successful team in the salary cap era is to sign players who are coming off one or more bad seasons at discount prices, with the expectation that they can bounce back to previous career highs.  Similarly, teams want to avoid players who have had a few peak seasons and are due to slide back to previous career lows.

To identify which is which use the Bounceback Index (BBI) and the Slideback Index (SBI), which calculates in GVT the extent to which a player has either bounced back to previous career form, or slid back to previous career lows.  This topic is covered annually on Hockey Prospectus, and the raw data for 2010-11 can be found right here.
